BOTANICAL NAME
- Hemionitis arifolia
The endearing heart-shaped leaves of this fern rise up on wiry, dark brown stems.The fertile fronds grow on long stems, whereas the same-shaped, non-fertile fronds are closer to the potting medium on shorter stems.The look of this plant would lead one to believe it is not a fern or even remotely related to ferns. The leaves are stiff and leathery, without the small leaflets fern fronds usually have.This fern is often used for terrariums because of its need for constant moisture and humidity.
LIGHT PREFERENCE
A medium light, such as an east window, is best for this fern.
WATERING
Use a peat-based, well-drained potting medium, and keep it evenly moist but not standing in water. Place the container on a pebble tray or grow in a terrarium or under a cloche for best results.
FLOWER
Ferns do not produce flowers.SIZE: This fern grows 6 to 8 inches (16.2 to 20.3 cm) tall and wide.
PROPAGATION
These can be propagated from the spores or by division.
