This has a large rosette of tongue-like, dark bluish-green leaves and develops a stem up to 2ft (60cm) long in summer, bearing pale-yellow flowers with reddish-brown tips.

Care: In winter, keep compost just moist and the urn filled with water; in summer, water more freely but ensure compost is well drained, and regularly top up the water in the urn. Feed every 4–5 weeks with weak liquid fertilizer during summer. Repot in spring, usually every 3 years. |

Propagation: In spring, remove offsets, transfer to individual pots, and place in 64–70°F (18–21°C). |
