Pick-a-Back Plant, Pig-a-Back Plant, Piggy-Back Plant, Thousand Mothers, Youth-on-Age: Tolmiea menziesii
Evergreen perennial with large, hairy, maple-like, mid-green leaves. Small plantlets grow where leafstalks join mature leaves. During summer it produces red-flushed, greenish-white flowers on long stems. There are several variegated forms, including ‘Taff’s Gold.’

Care: In winter, keep compost evenly moist; in summer, water more freely and feed every 3 weeks. Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, usually every 1–2 years. |

Propagation: Divide congested plants in spring. Alternatively, in late spring or summer, sever mature leaves with plantlets attached to them and peg them on the compost surface. When plantlets have developed roots, transfer them to individual pots and place in 45–50°F (7–10°C). until established; later place in 50–64°F (10–18°C). |
