Also known as Parodia ottonis, this desert cactus eventually has a clustering nature. Initially, it has a solitary, deep-green, cylindrical, or globular body with a flattened top, about 3in (7.5cm) wide, and ribs bearing slender, yellow-brown spines. Yellow flowers, up to 4in (10cm) long, appear from late spring to midsummer.

Care: In winter, keep compost dry, especially if the temperature falls below the level indicated; in summer, water freely and feed every 2 weeks with weak liquid fertilizer. |
