Fruiting and Berried Houseplants
Houseplants with berries and fruits remain attractive for a long time, especially if the room is cool. Most of these plants, such as Ardisia crenata and Ficus deltoidea, grow well in winter temperatures of 45–55°F (7–13°C), and slightly higher in summer, but citrus types benefit from a few degrees higher in both seasons. All prefer good light, but avoid extra-strong, direct sunlight in summer. Botanically, fruits and berries are different, but to most houseplant enthusiasts they are the same, ranging from bright red berries to orange-like fruits.
Coral Berry, Spice Berry: Ardisia crenata (also: Ardisia crispa and Ardisia crenulata)
This evergreen, shrub-like plant bears star-like, creamy white, fragrant flowers in early summer, followed by masses of long-lasting, glossy, scarlet berries.
