Rat’s Tail Cactus, Rattail Cactus: Aporocactus flagelliformis
Forest cactus with long, spine-clad, mid-green stems, ½in (12mm) wide and up to 3ft (90cm) long. It bears funnel-shaped, magenta flowers during mid- and late spring.

Care: In winter, keep compost slightly moist; in early spring, increase the amount of water. Feed every 2 weeks from when buds reveal color to the onset of late summer. Repot plants after their flowers fade—usually every year. |

Propagation: Take 3in (7.5cm) cuttings in early and midsummer. Allow the stem ends to dry, insert in sandy compost and place in 70°F (21°C). |
