Pelargonium
A group of popular houseplants with a sub-shrubby nature, Pelargoniums are often confusingly called geraniums because their leaf shapes resemble those of the garden geranium (a herbaceous perennial totally unrelated to pelargoniums). Several types of pelargoniums are used to decorate homes, some with superb flowers, others with attractive leaves. On the following pages are some with scented leaves.

Winter: In temperate climates, plants can be overwintered in a greenhouse or conservatory in 45–50°F (7–10°C). Direct light |
Summer: 55–61°F (13–16°C). Direct light, but provide light shade if the temperature rises dramatically |
Care: In winter, keep compost barely moist, but water more freely in summer. |

Propagation: Take stem-tip cuttings, about 3in (7.5cm) long, in mid- and late summer. Insert in equal parts moist peat and sharp sand. Place in 55–61°F (13–16°C) on a greenhouse bench and cover initially with a couple of sheets of newspaper. When rooted, transfer the cuttings to individual pots. |
