CROCODILE FERN
BOTANICAL NAME
- Microsorum musifolium
The crocodile fern gets its name from the fact that the fronds resemble the skin of a crocodile. The long, wide fronds have a seer-suckered texture and are quite unique in the plant world. These are often found growing as epiphytes in their native habitat.
LIGHT PREFERENCE
A medium to bright light is best.This fern does well in an east window.
WATERING
Plant this fern in a well-drained, peat-based potting medium. Keep it evenly moist, but never standing in water. Place it on a pebble tray to keep the humidity high.
FLOWER
Ferns do not flower.
SIZE
Though this fern can get 4-foot-long (1.2 m) fronds in their native habitat, in the home they will rarely pass 2 feet (0.6 m).
PROPAGATION
These plants can be divided and planted up separately.
