BOTANICAL NAME

• Pilea microphylla

The fine texture of this plant gives it a ferny appearance.The name comes from the way the plant ejects pollen from its small flowers. The diminutive size of the leaves and the plant make it a perfect fairy garden addition. Pinch it back to keep it bushy and smaller.

LIGHT PREFERENCE

A medium light is best, such as in an east or west window.

WATERING

Keep evenly moist, watering when the top of the potting medium feels dry. Do not keep it overly wet, as it easily rots.

FLOWER

Tiny greenish flowers are inconspicuous.

SIZE

This grows 8 to 12 inches (20.3 to 30.5 cm) tall.

PROPAGATION

Propagate from stem cuttings potted in moist medium.

CULTIVAR

• Pilea microphylla ‘VARIEGATA’ – A cultivar with green, white, and pink leaves.
