Rose Pincushion Cactus: Mammillaria zeilmanniana
This desert cactus has a cylindrical, glossy, pale-green body that forms a multiheaded clump. It is covered with tufts of fine, white hairs. During midsummer, it develops masses of reddish flowers about ¾in (18mm) wide.

Care: In winter, keep compost relatively dry; in summer, water freely but ensure the compost is well drained (do not let water rest on the cushions). Throughout summer, feed every 2 weeks with weak liquid fertilizer. |

Propagation: Remove offsets in early summer, allow cut ends to dry slightly, insert in sandy compost, and place in 50–61°F (10–16°C). |
