Fingernail Plant: Neoregelia spectabilis
This has narrow, shiny-green leaves with crimson tips. The upper sides often have red flecks, while the undersides are ash-gray and banded. At flowering time, the center of the plant turns rose-red, followed by a dense head of blue flowers and purple-brown bracts.

Care: In winter, keep compost just moist and the urn full of water; in summer, water the compost moderately, also topping up the water in the urn, and feed every 5 weeks with weak liquid fertilizer. Repot young plants in spring, usually every 3–4 years. |

Propagation: In early summer, remove offsets, transfer to individual pots, and place in 70°F (21°C). |
