Blushing Bromeliad: Neoregelia carolinae
Sometimes known as Nidularium meyendorffii, this vase-forming bromeliad forms a wide rosette of strap-like, glossy, bright-green leaves with pointed tips. It flowers at any time of the year; flowering encourages the leaves around the rosette to turn purple or bright red. It develops small, violet-blue flowers surrounded by glossy, red bracts. There are several forms of this plant, including tricolor, with glossy-green leaves lined with cream and rose-pink stripes.
