Bird’s Nest Bromeliad: Nidularium innocentii
This urn-forming bromeliad has a large rosette of finely tooth-edged, strap-like, glossy-surfaced, brownish-green leaves with metallic-purple undersides. During summer, a short stem arises from the urn, bearing 6–8 bracts surrounded by a few small, white flowers. There are several forms, including striatum (wide yellow stripes on the leaves and rose-red bracts) and purpureum (purplish-brown leaves).
