Areca Palm, Butterfly Palm, Cane Palm, Feather Palm, Golden Cane Palm, Yellow Palm: Chrysalidocarpus lutescens
Now known as Dypsis lutescens and earlier as Areca lutescens, this palm develops cane-like stems and feather-like clusters of yellowish-green leaflets. The fronds, 3ft (90cm) long, are on canes that gently arch.

Care: In winter, keep compost slightly moist but do not allow to become dry; in summer, water freely and feed with weak liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks. Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, usually every 2–3 years. When large, replace some of the surface soil with fresh compost rather than repotting. |

Propagation: Divide congested plants in spring, or remove and pot sucker-like growths and place in 61–64°F (16–18°C). |
