Now known as Dypsis lutescens and earlier as Areca lutescens, this palm develops cane-like stems and feather-like clusters of yellowish-green leaflets. The fronds, 3ft (90cm) long, are on canes that gently arch.

Height: 5–10ft (1.5–3m)

Spread: 3–5ft (90cm–1.5m)

Winter: 55–61°F (13–16°C). Indirect light

Summer: 61–80°F (16–27°C). Indirect light or light shade

Care: In winter, keep compost slightly moist but do not allow to become dry; in summer, water freely and feed with weak liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks. Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, usually every 2–3 years. When large, replace some of the surface soil with fresh compost rather than repotting.

Propagation: Divide congested plants in spring, or remove and pot sucker-like growths and place in 61–64°F (16–18°C).
