Aluminum Plant, Watermelon Pilea: Pilea cadierei
Evergreen perennial with leathery, oval, dark-green, slightly quilted leaves that have silvery splashes between the veins. The form ‘Nana’ is smaller, up to 9in (23cm) high. Pilea ‘Bronze’ is similar, with dull bronze-green leaves, 3in (7.5cm) long, and silvery marks between the veins.

Care: In winter, keep compost barely moist; in summer, water more freely and feed every 2 weeks. Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, usually every year when young. |

Propagation: Take 3–4in (7.5–10cm) stem-tip cuttings in spring or early summer. Place in 64–70°F (18–21°C). |
