Bowstring Hemp, Devil’s Tongue, Good Luck Plant, Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, Snake Plant: Sansevieria trifasciata
This evergreen succulent has upright, sword-like leaves. Sansevieria trifasciata has dark-green leaves with mottled gray transverse bands. Sansevieria trifasciata var. laurentii is more impressive, with bold, creamy yellow edges to the leaves. Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Hahnii’ (often sold as Sansevieria hahnii) is about 6in (15cm) high, with dark-green leaves that develop transverse gray and yellow bands. ‘Golden Hahnii’ has yellow edges to its leaves.

Care: In winter, keep compost barely moist; in summer, water thoroughly but allow to become slightly dry between applications, and feed every 2 weeks. Repot in spring, but only when the plant totally fills its pot with roots and stems, usually every 2–3 years. |

Propagation: All can be increased by dividing congested plants when being repotted, but those plants without yellow edges, such as can be also be increased by taking leaf cuttings during summer and placing them in 70°F (21°C). |
