Deer-Tongue Fern, Hart’s-Tongue Fern: Phyllitis scolopendrium
Now known as Asplenium scolopendrium and earlier as Scolopendrium vulgare, this relatively hardy fern’s fronds resemble long, shiny-green tongues. Several forms have intricately shaped fronds, including ‘Crispum’ (edges crisped and waved) and ‘Cristatum’ (branched and crested tips). It is mainly the crested forms that are grown indoors.
