Part Two: Plant Directory
FOLIAGE HOUSEPLANTS are popular, creating color and interest over a long period, with only old age or neglect spoiling their display and shortening life expectancy. Many plants, such as variegated ivies and aspidistras, have long been living features in homes. Others are less hardy, but well worth growing.
Foliage Plants
Chinese Evergreen: Aglaonema commutatum
Evergreen perennial with lance-shaped, dark-green leaves up to 5in (13cm) long and 2in (5cm) wide, and having silvery-gray zones on either side of the lateral veins. There are several forms, including Aglaonema commutatum ‘Golden Evergreen’ (Aglaonema commutatum ‘Pseudobracteatum’ sometimes sold as Aglaonema pseudobracteatum), with rich green, spear-shaped leaves and creamy-gold markings.
