Widely grown houseplant with a single stem and stiff, glossy leaves. There are many forms, including ‘Decora’ (dark, large leaves), ‘Doescheri’ (pink-tinted, pale-green leaves with ivory edges), ‘Schrijveriana’ (variegated cream patches), ‘Tricolor’ (cream variegations, sometimes flushed pink), and ‘Black Prince’ (near-black foliage).

Summer: 61–75°F (16–24°C). Indirect light, or direct light without full sun |
Care: In winter, keep compost lightly moist; in summer, water more freely and feed every 2–3 weeks. Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, usually every 2 years. When plants are large, top-dress the compost instead of repotting. |

Propagation: Take 4–6in (10–15cm) cuttings during late spring and early summer. Place them in 70–75°F (21–24°C). Alternatively, use air layering for large plants with bare stems in early and midsummer. |
