Bloomscape, a newly launched startup out of Detroit, wants to help you become the plant parent you’ve always wanted to be.

If you’re a beginner who is kind of befuddled about what plants to buy, where to buy them and what to do when you get them into your home, Bloomscape might be for you. If you think you’ve got a pretty good handle on the situation but could use a little moral support and loving advice, Bloomscape might also be for you. If you’re a plant care veteran who just wants to try out something hip and new, turns out Bloomscape might be for you, too.

The brainchild of Justin Mast, who comes from a long line of folks in the plant biz, with support from Shinola alum Bridget Russo and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros frontman Alex Ebert, Bloomscape is designed to bring greenhouse quality plants to folks who may not live near one, or just don’t know where to start.

According to Vogue, Mast was inspired to start Bloomscape because of the Dutch concept of gezellig: “Plants help create gezellig. It’s one of those words with no English translation, but it means coziness, an intimate social feeling that you get when you’re in spaces you love with people you love,” Mast explains. “I realized that shopping for plants is not gezellig at all.”

Offering up high quality plants is just the beginning, the website makes choosing the right plant for your space super easy. Users can select plants based on size, difficulty, light level, pet friendliness and if it’s an air cleaner. Along with the plants themselves, the company offers the services of a Plant Mom (Mast’s actual mom, natch) who is on hand to answer all of your pressing horticultural questions.
