Other Bromeliads
- Aechmea blumenavii (Urn Plant): 10–15 stiff and strap-like, slightly arching green leaves, 1 ½in (36mm) wide, with scaly-white overtones and dark violet at their tops. They form a long tube. Yellow flowers in loose clusters at the tops of long, stiff stems during mid- and late summer.
- Billbergia x windii: hybrid of Billbergia nutans, but smaller and less hardy, and with wider, rigid, gray-green leaves covered in gray scales (as if dusted with flour). Pendent, tubular flowers combine pink and bluish-green, with long, pale-yellow stamens.
- Dyckia brevifolia (Pineapple Dyckia): shiny, green, stiff, spreading, spine-edged, tapering leaves up to 8in (20cm) long; undersides have silver lines. In late summer, flower stems arise from the plant’s sides (not center) bearing bright orange flowers.
- Guzmania sanguinea: urn-forming bromeliad, with broad, flattish rosette of red-tinged leaves and pale-yellow or white central area.
