Ron is a digital designer… and a plant addict, as evidenced by the Auckland home he shares with his partner, and two dogs (a mini schnauzer and chihuahua). He describes their loft, located in a 1920s converted factory in the Victoria Quarter, as packed with character and featuring cityscape views. There are two levels: an open plan kitchen/dining/living area below and two bedrooms above. “The apartment is filled with sunlight and plants.”
What is your favorite room and why? The spacious sun-filled living room. The room has been designed with light in mind, with light streaming in from sunrise to sunset. High ceilings and white walls maximize the living space creating an airy atmosphere, perfect for the contrasting greens and earthen tones of the polished wooden floors, which are intact original factory floors complete with barrel stains and oil marks.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? This would be a set of Cesca chairs that I scored from a second-hand shop on the internet.
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? I guess it would be Tarzan because our place does look like an urban jungle.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Fill it with the things you love when creating a home. From ageless vintage furniture to some collections from people you love (my mother) and lots of stuff that I brought from my hometown, always reminds me of home when I look at it. Besides that, it’s about adding a lot of greenery at home. I find plants really give a place a homey, relaxing and inviting feeling.
